ROOF INSTALLATION

What goes into a new roof.

A roof is a system of layers that work together. Here is what we install on a New Jersey home, and why each part matters.

  • New rafters and roof sheathing

    Deck & structure

Before anything goes on top, we check the plywood or plank deck and the rafters. Soft or rotted sections are replaced so the new roof sits on a sound base.

  • New roof decking going down on a brick home

    Underlayment & ice barrier

Ice and water barrier goes along the eaves, in valleys and around chimneys, with synthetic underlayment across the rest of the deck to stop wind-driven rain.

  • Cape Cod house with a new shingle roof

    Roofing, flashing & vents

Shingles, standing-seam metal or torch-down flat roofing goes on with new flashing at walls and chimneys, and ventilation balanced for the attic below.

WHEN YOU NEED A NEW ROOF

Planning a project that needs a roof?

A new installation isn’t only for worn-out roofs. These projects all call for a roof built properly from the deck up.

  • Building an addition or dormer

A new room needs a roof tied into the existing one, with valleys and flashing that keep the joint watertight.

  • Switching roof materials

Moving from shingles to standing-seam metal is a new installation, with its own underlayment, trim and flashing.

  • A low-slope porch or garage

Shingles aren’t made for roofs with very little pitch. Porches and rear additions need a flat-roof system instead.

ROOF INSTALLATION FAQS

Questions? Start here.

The size and pitch of the roof, the material you choose, how many old layers come off, deck repairs and details such as chimneys and skylights all affect the cost. We measure the roof and give you a free written estimate.

Architectural asphalt shingles suit most pitched roofs. Standing-seam metal lasts longer and sheds snow well but costs more up front. Low-slope sections need a flat system such as torch-down modified bitumen. We explain the trade-offs for your house.

Many homes are finished in a day or two. Larger or steeper roofs, deck repairs and extra layers to remove add time. We watch the forecast and work around rain and high wind so the roof is sealed before we leave each day.

Building codes allow a second layer in some cases, but we usually recommend a full tear-off. It lets us inspect and repair the deck and avoids extra weight and hidden problems. We’ll tell you which applies to your roof.

Yes. We install standing-seam metal roofs, which use raised seams and concealed fasteners to shed rain and snow. Metal works on a whole house, or on porches and bay windows where it adds contrast to a shingle roof.

It’s a self-sealing membrane installed under the roofing along the eaves, in valleys and around chimneys and vents. In a New Jersey winter it helps stop water from ice dams backing up under the shingles and into the house.

Yes. Financing is available through a third-party lender, subject to credit approval. We explain how it works when we give you the estimate, so you can decide on the project and the payment plan before anything is scheduled.

You get the warranty details in writing with your estimate, so you know what is covered for materials and workmanship before you sign. ADZ Roofing is GAF Certified and registered in New Jersey as HIC #13VH12840300.
