SYSTEMS WE INSTALL

Flat and pitched roofs, installed right

Union County’s mix of housing calls for more than one kind of roof. These are the systems we install most often here.

  • New rafters and roof sheathing

    Torch-down flat roofs

Modified bitumen sheets are heat-welded at the seams to form one continuous surface, a good fit for flat roofs on two-family homes, mixed-use buildings and rear additions.

  • New roof decking going down on a brick home

    Shingle roofs for capes

GAF architectural shingles with new flashing at dormers, chimneys and walls, ice and water barrier at eaves and valleys, and venting suited to a cape’s half-story.

  • Cape Cod house with a new shingle roof

    Flat-to-pitched joins

Where a flat roof meets a shingled slope or a wall, we build the flashing details that keep water moving away. That joint is where many leaks on older homes start.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL

What to plan for on a city lot.

Installing a roof on a busy street or a tight lot takes planning. We talk through these points before the work starts.

  • Drainage on flat roofs

A flat roof needs a slight fall to its drains or scuppers. We check the pitch so water doesn’t pond.

  • Access and parking

Where will the dumpster and materials go? We plan placement around driveways, parking and neighbors.

  • Mixed-use buildings

On buildings with shops below, we schedule around the businesses and keep entrances clear and safe.

Wondering whether to repair your flat roof or install a new one? We’ll inspect for free and explain both in writing.

ROOF INSTALLATION FAQS

Questions? Start here.

We install torch-down modified bitumen flat roofs, GAF architectural shingle roofs and standing-seam metal, along with the flashing, ventilation and underlayment each system needs. We recommend the right one for each part of your roof.

It’s a modified bitumen roof made of sheets that are heated so the seams fuse together, forming a continuous, waterproof surface. It’s widely used on flat and low-slope roofs on homes and small buildings.

Yes. On mixed-use buildings we plan the work to keep entrances open and safe, protect signs and awnings and keep the sidewalk clear. Tell us the business hours and we’ll schedule around them.

We check the existing slope and where the drains and scuppers are before installing. Where low spots hold water, we can build up the area so it drains, then install the new membrane over it.

Cost depends on the roof type and size, the number of layers to remove, deck repairs and flashing at walls, chimneys and dormers. Flat and shingle roofs are priced differently. Estimates are free and written.

Yes. Two-family homes are common across Union County, and many have a pitched front roof with a flat section at the back. We install both and tie them together with proper flashing.

It depends more on installation and drainage than on type. A well-installed torch-down roof that drains properly and a well-vented shingle roof can both serve for many years. We’ll explain how to look after yours.

Yes. Warranty details come in writing with your estimate, covering the GAF products we install and our own workmanship. ADZ Roofing is a registered and insured NJ home improvement contractor, HIC #13VH12840300.
